A global leader in innovative research and experiential education, Drexel University is blazing the trails forward through diverse and unique collaborations in China. Engineering professor Dr. Yury Gogotsi, director of the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, plans to expand his study of nanomaterials for biomedical applications with SARI colleagues at the Drexel-SARI Center.

Drexel enhances its global impact and fosters people to people diplomacy through exchanges, the arts and its distinctive international joint research center model. Recent examples of the joint research model include the Drexel SARI Research Center in Shanghai. and the Drexel-IDR Research HUB with Hebrew University. University roots in China run broad and deep, crossing geographic, disciplinary and industry boundaries. Drexel has formal partnerships with numerous academic and scientific institutions in China from academies of fine art and top universities to the Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Engineering professor Dr. Yury Gogotsi, director of the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, plans to expand his study of nanomaterials for biomedical applications with SARI colleagues at the Drexel-SARI Center.

June 7, 2012 the delegation had traveled to Shanghai where in addition to Orchestra concerts and activities, they celebrated the opening of the Drexel-SARI Center, the release of the Chinese version of The Man Who Made Wall Street: Anthony J. Drexel and The Rise of Modern Finance, and met with distinguished partners.

Collaboration – Innovation – Dedication - Cooperation. These were the guiding themes expressed in both words and actions during the momentous inauguration of the new joint research center in China. Leaders John A. Fry and Jiang Mianheng marked the official opening of the Drexel-SARI Center in Shanghai on June 6 with a celebration at the Center that included a unique international performance by musicians from The Philadelphia Orchestra. Drexel signed an agreement with the Shanghai Advanced Research Institute (SARI), Chinese Academy of Sciences to launch the Drexel-SARI Center last October. Founded in Beijing in 1949, the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is a leading academic institution and comprehensive research and development center in natural science, technological science and high-tech innovation.

Located in the Shanghai Pudong Science and Technology Park, the Drexel-SARI Center will be a home for Drexel’s research collaborations and educational partnerships with SARI and other institutes of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, offering Drexel faculty insight into the latest technology and innovation in China. The Center will also serve as a base in Shanghai for other Drexel educational endeavors including internships, co-ops, and symposia.

Engineering professor Dr. Yury Gogotsi, director of the A.J. Drexel Nanotechnology Institute, plans to expand his study of nanomaterials for biomedical applications with SARI colleagues at the Drexel-SARI Center. Two of Dr. Gogotsi’s students have already begun research at SARI: Undergraduate, Amanda Pentecost and PhD. Candidate Ioannis Neitzel.
