Prof. Yury Gogotsi was awarded the Lee Hsun Award Lecture at the Institute of Metal Research (IMR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on November 5, 2015. The Lee Hsun Lecture Award is named after the former IMR Director H. Lee, who discovered hydrogen embrittlement in steels. According to Prof. Hui-Ming Chen, Editor in Chief of Materials for Energy Storage (Elsevier) and IMR Advanced Carbon Materials Division Director, this award “Honors scientists who have significant impact and made great contribution to the field of materials science and engineering both at home and abroad. It is aiming at continuously and regularly encouraging scientists with great influence on materials science and engineering to visit IMR to accomplish academic communication and cooperation, and promote the establishment of new subject areas.”
Prof. Yury Gogotsi was awarded the Lee Hsun Award Lecture at the Institute of Metal Research (IMR) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences on November 5, 2015.
Previous recipients of this award in the field of materials science and engineering include such household names as Subra Suresh (former MIT MSE Dept. Head and Dean, NSF Director and current CMU President), Rod Ruoff (the biggest name in carbon), Morinobu Endo (credited with discovery of carbon nanotubes even before Iijima), Zhong Ling (ZL) Wang of Georgia Tech, Founding Editor of Nano Energy (Elsevier) and Nobel Prize candidate by Thomson Reuters estimate this year.
